David Monk Experience: Prior to his consultancy career David had a comprehensive history of employment in the NHS which included general and senior management commissioning and provider experience in mental health, learning disability, acute and community services. His track record on service user and carer involvement extends from the late 80s working with drug users as part of the Department of Addiction at St Georges Hospital Tooting through to the establishment of consumer groups in mental health and learning difficulties in the early 90s which also included service user designed and commissioned advocacy services. David also led the health service redesign Citizens Jury Team that was runner-up in the OPM public sector excellence awards in 2000. David also has significant experience of running focus groups with the general public and has used this methodology to develop inquiry into health care. David continues to work with clients engaged in the provision of mental health services. He is in his 5th year as advisor to and organiser of the London NHS Mental Health CEO Group. He is also working with NWLHA on London's personality disorder strategy and has recently facilitated a number of mixed service user, carer and professional workshops. David recently wrote the document 'Towards a Mental Health and Well-Being Strategy for London - the platform for a new strategic framework for London. David has also recently designed the Mental Health Summer Summit on Mental Health for the Surrey Sussex Leadership Forum following this up with a short piece of work inquiring into the alignment of service user and leadership forum thinking on the future.
